Google Base for Froogle Merchants

Can I submit a Froogle feed to Google Base?

While your old Froogle product feed will still process, we strongly recommend that you begin submitting a Google Base bulk upload using product attributes. Using Google Base attributes will allow you to include more information about your items. The more information you provide using attributes to structure your data, the better we’ll be able to match search queries to your items.

Can I continue to use my Google Maps business listings feed?

The format for Google Maps business listings feeds has not changed. Our system will continue to process your feed file. However, please don't include Google Base attributes in a Google Maps bulk upload as they will prevent your file from being processed.

How can I include my products in Froogle?

Google Base gives sellers the ability to easily create items and post them directly to Froogle. Simply enter your product's information in Google Base via a web form, and your item will be posted to Froogle within minutes. You don't even need a website to create items. Google Base will create and host a unique URL (web address) where searchers can view your products for as long as they are active. Learn more about positing your products individually through a web form.

Alternatively, if you're a seller with a large number of products, you may wish to submit your items in bulk. Like the Froogle Merchant Center, Google Base supports batch uploading through bulk uploads (formerly "product feeds"). Learn more about creating a product bulk upload for inclusion in Froogle.

If you've already created a Froogle product feed we recommend converting your product feed to Google Base product bulk upload.

What if I had both a Froogle account and a Google Base account?

If you used the same Google Account login to access both your Google Base and Froogle Merchant Center accounts, these accounts have been merged. If you used separate logins to access your accounts, you may now have two accounts in Google Base (one for each login).

Please know that we don't allow duplicate listings by the same provider. If you have more than one Google Base account, you should pick one to post your products.

How can I convert my Froogle product feed to a Google Base bulk upload?

Most of the Froogle fields (now called "attributes") have an equivalent Google Base attribute. You can convert your Froogle feed by simply replacing the old attribute names. While most attributes have the same name, a few attributes have been renamed:

product_url - link
name - title
image_url - image_link
offer_id - id
release_date - publish_date
starring - actor

In addition, some Froogle fields now require different formatting in the Google Base bulk upload format:

instock - quantity
shipping - shipping
ship_to - shipping

Lastly, a few Froogle fields are no longer supported in the Google Base bulk upload format: category, ship_from, rating, director, format, and publisher.

Updating your old Froogle fields to the new Google Base attributes allows you to provide more structured information about your content, which will help us to better match users' queries to your items. You can even create custom attributes in order to describe specific qualities and characteristics of your items.

Can I continue to use my Froogle product feed?

Our system will still be able to process Froogle field names (such as product_url, name, etc.), but we strongly recommend that you use Google Base attributes instead. Google Base attributes allow you to provide more detailed information about your items, which in turn helps us to better match your items to users' queries.

What are bulk uploads?

Bulk uploads are what feeds are called in Google Base. They allow you to upload multiple items at a time to Google Base.

They use a different set of attributes (fields) than Froogle feeds.

Do I need to sign up for Google Base?

If you had a Froogle Merchant Center account, your Merchant Center account has been transferred over to Google Base. You'll be able to sign in with the same login name and password that you used for the Froogle Merchant Center.

Is Froogle being replaced by Google Base?

Froogle's search results will remain separate from Google Base. However, the Froogle Merchant Center is being replaced by the Google Base dashboard. Items submitted to Google Base which are appropriate for Froogle will be displayed both in Froogle and in Google Base search results.

Where did the Froogle Merchant Center go?

The Google Base dashboard has replaced the Froogle Merchant Center. Your existing account and product information have already been transferred and are now viewable in your new Google Base account. From now on, when you click "Information for Sellers" on the Froogle homepage, you'll be brought to a new sign-in page.

As well as on Froogle, your content should be viewable at http://base.google.com; you can search there to verify that your products have appeared online after you post them.

What is Google Base?

Google Base is a free Google service that lets you publish virtually any kind of information - be it your latest riveting screenplay, your physical business locations, or a listing for your slightly dented 1989 Honda Accord - on Google or other Google properties.

For sellers, posting to Google Base allows you to include your products in Froogle, Google's free product search. You can use Google Base to tell us about your products either by submitting a bulk upload file containing information about each product, or by submitting information for one product at a time via a web form.
