Google Base & Google Checkout

What is Google Checkout?

Google Checkout is a service that makes buying and selling across the web fast, convenient, and secure.

As a Google Base seller, you can create a Google Base-hosted page to market and sell individual items, without needing a website of your own. You can then use Google Checkout to charge buyers' credit cards and process and manage your orders--all within a single, secure web application.

How much does it cost to process transactions through Google Checkout for items I sell on Google Base?

Google Base sellers who process transactions through Google Checkout will be charged 2.0% plus $.20 per transaction. If you incur a chargeback, you'll be charged $10.

Fees will be assessed when you charge your order. If you refund an order, Google will return the variable portion of the transaction fee (2.0%) to you, but will keep the flat portion of the fee ($.20).

There are no additional setup or monthly fees.

New orders will appear in your orders inbox. To view your inbox, sign in to Google Base and click the Orders tab.

To process your new order:

  1. Review the order:  Click the order number in your inbox to view the order details, including estimated taxes and net revenue. You can also choose your shipping carrier and enter a tracking number as needed.
  2. Charge the buyer's credit card:  Once you've determined you can fulfill and ship the order, charge the buyer's credit card by clicking Charge beside the appropriate order in your inbox. (You can also click Charge this order on the order details page.) Important: When you charge an order, you'll also initiate the payout process. Please be sure you're able to fulfill and ship the order before you charge the buyer.
  3. Ship the order and notify the buyer:  To ensure your buyer's satisfaction (and to qualify for the Google Checkout Payment Guarantee), pack and ship the order according to the shipping method and timeframe agreed upon when the order was confirmed. Once you've shipped the order, you must inform the buyer that the order is on its way. Simply click Ship beside the appropriate order in your inbox to send a system-generated email to the buyer. You can also send this email by clicking Send shipping confirmation on the order details page.

Does Google Checkout work for bulk uploaded items?

Yes. To accept Google Checkout for bulk uploaded items, simply add 'GoogleCheckout' as a payment option under the 'payment_accepted' attribute.

Important:

  • Before you can accept Google Checkout for bulk uploaded items, you must have signed up for Google Checkout already. If you haven't already signed up for Google Checkout, you can do so by creating a single item on Google Base. (Learn more)
  • Do not include a URL with the Google Checkout option. Otherwise, your listing will direct buyers to your homepage, instead of a Google-hosted page that displays the Google Checkout button.
  • You may only accept Google Checkout for products and vehicles. Google Checkout isn't currently available for item types you create on your own.

Are Google Checkout badges available for AdWords ads that direct buyers to Google Base-hosted pages?

Google Checkout isn't currently designed to support this functionality. We look forward to offering more options in the future.
